Program Increment (PI) Planning Workshop

Workshop Overview

Program Increment (PI) Planning is the cornerstone of SAFe®—a powerful, cadence-based event that aligns all teams on an Agile Release Train (ART) to a shared mission and vision. This two-day workshop enables teams, stakeholders, and leadership to plan, coordinate, and commit to a synchronized delivery plan for the upcoming Program Increment. Whether you’re launching your first ART or scaling coordination across multiple ARTs, this workshop lays the foundation for cross-team collaboration and successful execution.

Workshop Description

Facilitated by a SAFe® Program Consultant (SPC) or Release Train Engineer (RTE), this workshop prepares organizations to run or improve their PI Planning events. It combines strategic planning with hands-on team breakouts, ensuring that every team aligns with program objectives and understands how their work contributes to delivering business value.

Participants will:

  • Review the business context, vision, and top features for the PI
  • Break down features into team-level stories
  • Identify and document dependencies, risks, and delivery milestones
  • Engage in team breakout sessions and draft Iteration Plans
  • Align via management review and problem-solving
  • Conclude with PI Objectives, team commitments, and a confidence vote

This workshop is ideal for:

  • Agile Teams (Scrum Masters, Product Owners, Developers, QA)
  • Business Owners and Executive Stakeholders
  • Release Train Engineers (RTEs)
  • Product Managers and System Architects
